Busy… with the same old stuff

It’s true, I’ve been very busy lately but it’s been with the same old everyday stuff. It’s nothing exciting otherwise I’d be doing my best to find time to post about it. Since it isn’t anything incredibly exciting, how about some bullets? (As if you really had a choice)

q       Last weekend My Prince and I decided to rent some movies. I’m happy to say that I finally watch Bridget Jones's Diary and Blood Diamonds. I wanted to see both of these movies but was secretly more excited about watching Bridget Jones’s Diary than I was Blood Diamonds. I read the book Bridget Jones’s Diary so I was eager to see what the movie would be like and though I wanted to see Blood Diamonds I wasn’t too interested in seeing this bloody (for a lack of better words) guy flick. But, surprisingly enough, I enjoyed Blood Diamonds more than the latter.  Bridget Jones’s Diary, the book, was much better and My Prince also seemed to agree that Blood Diamonds was better (big surprise there).
q       I had gotten word of two job opportunities and applied for the one, which I wasn’t too excited about and was still awaiting the application for the second one, which I am very excited about. Yesterday I received the application for the second job and can barely wait to fill it out.
q       This whole exercise and diet thing is harder than I like to admit. My body responds so easily to foods. If I take more than two or three bites of something that is fattening or not good for me the next day the scale reflects it. I am being quite literal about those few bites. I’ve been paying more attention to the food that I put in my mouth and am carefully measuring my portions to a tee. When I choose something more on the unhealthy side I have to be more careful than one would think about my portion size. For instance My Prince and I went to an Italian restaurant one night for dinner. I love their portabella ravioli! But it’s cooked in heavy oils and covered with a cream sauce, which we all know is bad in the diet world. So, I ate a small sized salad, one bread stick and only three raviolis. You get about ten raviolis that are about the size of a little girl’s bracelet. The next day the scale read that I was at my same weight as the day before. A few weeks before that when I had that same meal, only I didn’t watch my portions, the scale showed a 1lb. increase. It’s frustrating but I think I’m learning.
q       Back to the topic of movies. I’m on this kick where I have to read all of the books on my “want to read” list in two days. I’m exaggerating because I want to read those books very much and can’t stand the wait. Now I’ve also noticed that I have this urgency to watch movies that I’ve had on my “I want to watch” list for a while now. So, last night I went to the video store and rented Brokeback Mountain and Super Size Me. I also wanted to rent Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp in it but they didn’t have it. I realize that’s a strange line up but here’s my thought process for those choices. As I’m sure you all know by now Heath Ledger had passed away and only then did I realize that I still hadn’t seen Brokeback Mountain, so of course it got put on the “must see now” list. Over the weekend when I was renting the movies mentioned above for My Prince and I to watch I had seen Super Size Me out of the corner of my eye and remembered that I wanted to see that as well, so since I was going to rent BBM I decided I’d pick up SSM as well. When out of know where this little voice in my head said, “You still haven’t seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” with Johnny Depp in it yet. What could be better than chocolate and Johnny Depp?”  As I was browsing around for my selections I noticed a few other movies that I still wanted to see that I hadn’t yet and figured that I could pick those up on my next visit. This list of movies that I have also happen to be movies that My Prince wouldn’t watch with me because he’s just not interested in seeing them and that’s why I’m renting them on my own. **Side note: it’s funny that the three movies I wanted have the double first two initials in their titles “BBM”, “SSM”, and “CCF”. Weird, huh? lol

I’m happy that tomorrow is Friday and can barely wait for the weekend. I hope everyone is having a great Thursday! ‘Til next time!

    Weight Update

    fat girl weighing

I am pleased to announce that I am down 1lb. this week for Tales from the Scales challenge. Unfortunately I don’t have enough time to add any more to this post right now. But I had to squeeze in a few minutes to record my success.

Slow and steady wins the race!

    You Again?

Yep, its weigh-in time again for the Tales From the Scales challenge. I stepped on the scale, after a week of being really good, and it remained the same. But I’m happy that I was able to hold on to this wonderful number that takes me down from one category into another one. Just like how going from your teens (13-19) to your twenties (20-29) puts you into a different category. I’m hoping for a loss this week though and I’m still doing really good with my exercise and eating.

I found a new lasagna recipe that I’m itching to try. It’s a sausage, mushroom, and cheese recipe and of course I’d be using meatless sausage for it. I think I’ll try making it this weekend with My Prince. Last weekend I tried making the cauliflower “mashed potatoes” but no potatoes just using cauliflower and well that didn’t work out the right way so I’ll have to give it another try.

Speaking of “new things” my new school semester starts on January 30th and I’m nervous. My Prince finds it funny that I’m nervous but I can’t help it. After this last semester I realized that the class I took was three classes into the major outline. Meaning that this semester I’ll be starting with an Intro course and all new classmates. I’m hoping that this class will be easy since it is an Intro class and since I got an “A” in my last class that was two classes “ahead” of this one. I guess time will tell. This semester I also have a new school night of Wednesday night where as last semester it was Tuesday nights. I’m sure all will be well once I get back into the swing of things so stay tuned for more updates on my “school adventures”.

The Christmas Update That You Thought Would Never Come

I think I’ve put off the details of my Christmas vacation and New Years long enough. But you must endure the bullets, because that’s all I have time for today (Hey, what can I say? You’re lucky you’re even getting a post today, lol.)

q       To kick off the Christmas vacation My Prince and I went to a Penguins’ hockey game and unfortunately they lost. I was so happy to be on vacation and at a hockey game that it didn’t even matter that they lost. It was still a great way to start my vacation.
q       The next day we went back to My Prince’s second hometown of Little Town Nowhere, WV. It’s so little that I don’t even remember the name of the town.  But My Prince and the Royal Parents like to go back at Christmas time to reminisce. We ate at one of their old hang outs, drove past their old house, and even stopped at the mall they used to shop at for some shopping. I walked away with about six new books that I bought with my Borders’ gift card. We ended the trip with a stop at a Japanese restaurant that My Prince always complains that we never stop at. He was determined to eat there at least one time! lol
q       The Sunday before Christmas we went to my Mom’s house for an early Christmas celebration because unfortunately my Mom had to work on Christmas Eve. I was caught off guard with the arrival of my stepfather’s brother and his family. But I did my best to tolerate them. We all sat down for dinner, then opened presents, and finished the evening with a game. Overall it was a nice time had by all.
q       For Christmas Eve My Prince’s Mom (the Queen) invited herself and her King over to my place for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner. So, My Prince and I prepped most of the day and got cooking. We ate a feast fit for Royalty (how fitting, huh? lol) For the meat eaters there was: lobster, steak, shrimp, and scallops and for the vegetarian of the group there was: portabella mushrooms, rice casserole, and stuffed mushrooms. We finished off the meal with white chocolate raspberry cheesecake. After we ate we talked for a bit and decided to play a game with dominos. We all had a wonderful evening together and the Queen insisted we do it again. You can’t ask for better than that!
q       On Christmas we started the day out at my Dad’s house. When we arrived we were immediately served up delicious foods and were entertained by good conversation. Shortly after we exchanged gifts it was off to My Prince’s Grandma’s house where the royal parents and Grandma were watching Christmas movies. My Prince proceeded to stuff himself silly with the leftovers at his Gram’s and when all of our belts just about busted and our eyes heavy with sleep we made the trip home. It was a great Christmas Day!
q       The next day I gave us the day “off” to rest after the exciting day of Christmas and to prep for the following dinner I was hosting for my Dad and Stepmother the next day. This day we just kicked back and relaxed.
q       The following day we prepped the same meal we had for the Royal parents and knocked the socks off of my Dad and Stepmother. They were highly impressed with our spread and couldn’t compliment us enough! After dinner we sat around talked for a bit until Dad and the Step Mom left. Yet another wonderful night with good company.
q       On Friday we decided to jam a bunch of fun events into one day. My Prince, the Royal Parents, and I kicked our day off at the flower show. The main thing I was interested in seeing there was the outdoor train exhibit, it was amazing! We then made our way to the Carnegie Science Center where we saw the movie Sea Monsters. But we saved the best for last, which was the Bodies Exhibit. This exhibit was absolutely amazing! It was very educational to see how our bodies work and what they are made up of and see it up close and personal. I really hope to go back one more time before the exhibit closes.
q       Finally it was New Years Eve and My Prince, the Royal Parents, and his Gram went out to eat for dinner. We then went to a magical Christmas Village. After seeing the huge light displays, we went indoors to see the train display, and then back outside to the bonfire. My Prince and I shared cups of hot chocolate by the fire and road in a horse drawn buggy. The evening couldn’t have been more romantic. We then came down to the city to watch the New Year’s fireworks and ended up missing them. So, we all piled into the car and went home.

To say that I enjoyed my vacation is an understatement. I hated the thought of coming back to work the next day but all good things must come to an end I suppose.

I know I’m a bit late in saying this but I hope you all enjoyed the holidays with you and yours.

    Happy (belated) New Year,

Today is a day where you wake up to find it snowing outside and don't want to go outside. I just wanted to stay in my pj's, wrapped up in a warm blanket, while drinking hot chocolate and watching movies all day. Too bad I had to come in the office instead. BLAH! To all who got to do just that today, color me jealous!

    I've been tagged!

    Here are THE RULES:
    1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
    2. Share 5 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
    3. Tag 5 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
    4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Ok here are my five things about me:

    1. My cousin Heather is my best girl friend. She lives in Philadelphia, which makes me miss her daily. We are the same age and do everything that we can together. I love getting e-mails, voicemails, and text messages from her. I listen/read to them over and over again and each time a huge smile spreads across my face.
    2. I love to shop at Fashion Bug and Kohl’s stores. I buy most of my clothes there and shoes!
    3. I’ve created a list of books that I own, books that I’ve read, and books that I want to read. I feel anxious and giddy when I think about all of the books I have yet to read. When My Prince and I went to Borders bookstore with my gift card from his parents for Christmas I started to fake hyperventilate, a huge smile crossed my face, and I kept saying, “So many books, so little time!” My Prince thought this was funny.
    4. My cubicle neighbor at work reminds me of the character “Luna” from the Harry Potter series so I call her Luna. When another co-worker heard me calling her this she responded with, “Luna… like lunatic?” I said, “no” and denied it but really that’s exactly why she reminds me of that character.
    5. I just finished reading two books in two weeks. Those books were Shopaholic Takes Manhattan and Can you Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinsella. I just started reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult.

Well, there it is… it may not be the best five or the most interesting but now you know some things that you didn’t before.

I know I’m supposed to tag people but I’m not going to. Anyone can do it and if you do leave a comment letting me know. Thanks!

    Happy New Year

Have you ever noticed how good the New Year looks at the beginning? I love the beginning of the year. I feel like I have a fresh new slate to do things right. Resolutions are made (and often broken), a New Year means new things to discover, and keeps the hopeful hoping! Or is it just me? lol

I had a very busy Christmas/New Year vacation and I LOVED IT! Coming back was exceptionally hard this year because I realized how much stress/unhappiness my job causes me. It felt soooooo good to just.be.happy.  But now that I’m back I’m back to being tortured, miserable, and stressed.

I have a small game plan of things to do to try and help myself change my situation. My cousin e-mailed me the contact information of her friend who is a headhunter here in my city so I e-mailed this headhunter in hopes that I can use her service. I’m trying to figure out my major in school and what class to take this semester, which I only have 11 days left to get registered for, but I’m not nervous. Also, once the women at my gym found out that I’m a computer geek they suggested I put up a flier offering my skills to them for a fee. I’ve also contacted my other cousin who happens to be in the career field that I’m thinking of going into to talk to her and get her perspective for the field. So, it’s not much but it’s a start.

I did a lot of fabulous things on my vacation that I hope to share soon.  My Christmas festivities continue through to this weekend as well. I’m going out to my Aunt’s house for Russian Christmas. I hope I have a good time. I’ve been having a very tough time readjusting from vacation life to “normal” life. I’ve been especially depressed over returning to the office and my mood just seems to be getting worse with each day.

Here’s hoping I can make some major changes in 2008.
